I’d like for this post to be about updates but after writing a couple of sentences it sounded more like excuses. *yipes*

This may sound slightly unreal (for those who know me anyway) but I am busier than usual these days. And yeah, as you can tell, that’s my excuse for not being able to finish part 5 for Disconnection, (Please) Notice. But I will. I really will.

Meantime, I hope to see you guys this Friday, June 27 for the Taken by Cars Video Launch for December 2 Chapter VII at DPI XL Studios along Pasong Tamo but most especially on Saturday, June 28 for Khavn De La Cruz’ rock-opera Newtopia at Tanghalang Amado Hernandez at the CCP for the 4th Virgin Labfest.

Whew. That’s a mouthful.

See how common man Vyrnz fight for Newtopians’ right to Freedom, Privacy, and Emotions such as Love even Unhappiness in the pseudo-perfect society controlled by Big Boy, the king of Newtopia.

Narrated by Alexis Tioseco as Ogab the Magician, Newtopia features performances from Ian Lomongo as Vyrnz, Tara Cabaero as Small Lady, and Bong Cabrera as Big Boy. Tengal, Mickey Abola and Khole de la Cruz completes the musical ensemble.

Multi-awarded independent filmmaker Khavn De La Cruz will screen his film Ultimo: Different Ways of Killing a National Hero on June 19, 4PM at the Bulwagang Rizal in UP Diliman.

Ultimo which has received the Valiente Award from La Palma International Film Festival explores Filipino identity and nationhood through scenes from a poetic documentary of Khavn’s meanderings in Spain interspersed with lines from Jose Rizal’s Mi Ultimo Adios.

Shot on location in La Palma, the 90 minute, black-and-white, silent film will have live scoring by Khavn on piano and Junji Lerma of Radioactive Sago Project on guitar.

Ultimo, along with a dance performance from Donna Miranda and Diego Marana plus spokenword poetry from National Artist Bienvenido Lumbera with an art installation from Norberto Roldan back-to-back with Virgilio S. Almario’s lecture entitled “Rizal German Literary Connections” followed by the launch of his latest book Rizal: Nobelista, a collection of critical essays on the literary greatness of the Noli and Fili.
